Anyone who knows me knows about my love for Camp Kudzu. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was just 3 years old. Diabetes is manageable, but it can be a struggle. My life changed when I began attending Camp Kudzu as a child. I don't know how to adequately put into words what camp has done for me. Every summer I attend camp, I learn something new about myself and my diabetes. I have found "my people" who coach me through the daily struggles of diabetes and who celebrate the triumphs. I would never have the support system that I do if it weren't for camp. I want every child living with diabetes to have the opportunity to attend camp and know that they are not alone.
Information borrowed from the Camp Kudzu website (www.campkudzu.org) :
Because of the generosity of our donors, Camp Kudzu is able to subsidize approximately one-half the cost of camp for all campers. Camp Kudzu’s summer camp fees are $800 per camper/per week, although our actual costs are $1,500 per camper/per week.
Donations also allow us to provide financial aid for campers from families with the greatest financial need. Our Scholarship Program offers assistance that ranges from 20% to 100% of camp fees; however, most awards are for 100% of camp fees. About 43% of our campers receive financial assistance each summer.
Each donation is greatly appreciated and makes an immediate impact for the hundreds of children and families we serve every year.
